Dr. Joel Batzofin

Dr. Joel Batzofin, an internationally recognized expert in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) who has helped pioneer many important developments in the field, was born in South Africa. He graduated from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School. After an internship in South Africa, Dr. Batzofin immigrated to the United States where he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School in 1983. He then did a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where he graduated in 1985. This was followed by a second fellowship in Reproductive Andrology and Male Infertility. Dr. Batzofin is therefore uniquely qualified to address both male and female infertility issues.
In 1986, Dr. Batzofin moved to California to join the Medical Faculty at Stanford University. He subsequently relocated to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In 1988, he founded the Huntington Reproductive Center in Pasadena, California. Under his medical directorship, the practice expanded into Orange County, CA and grew to become the largest provider of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) in the Western United States.
In 2003, Dr. Batzofin was recruited to open a new office for the Sher Institute of Reproductive Medicine in New York City, New York. The program grew rapidly under his leadership and expanded into Westchester County, Long Island and New Jersey. In August 2007, Dr. Batzofin opened Batzofin Fertility Services in midtown Manhattan.
In March 2011, Dr. Batzofin changed the name from Batzofin Fertility Services to New York Fertility Services ( NYFS) to recognize the growth and expansion of the program and to be inclusive of other physicians who use the clinic. NYFS incorporates cutting-edge Western Medicine (IVF, Frozen Embryo transfers, Egg Donation, Surrogacy, etc.) as well as practices from Traditional Chinese Medicine under the direction of Mike Berkley, L.Ac., at the Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness located next door to NYFS. A holistic approach to infertility treatment is offered in a tranquil setting that incorporates acupuncture, herbal treatments, Maya abdominal massage and nutritional counseling, along with state-of-the-art, cutting-edge Western Medical treatments.
Dr. Batzofin has authored many articles and scientific abstracts as well chapters in Medical Text books and has lectured and delivered scientific presentations throughout the world on various aspects of Assisted Reproductive Technology. He has a special interest and expertise in Third Party Parenting, i.e. Egg Donation and Surrogacy. Additionally, Dr. Batzofin is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome) patients, immunological issues related to infertility, and recurrent pregnancy loss. He is an active clinical investigator and remains committed to the needs and interests of his patients in a rapidly evolving area of medicine. He is also dedicated to helping patients preserve their fertility who have been recently diagnosed with cancer and works with Oncologists in the New York City area and around the United States.
Dr. Batzofin is married and has two daughters, both graduates from the University of Southern California. His hobbies include sports, especially golf and skiing. He also loves to explore new destinations and has traveled extensively throughout the world. He enjoys photography and loves children.
Dr. Batzofin chose Reproductive Medicine because his biggest passion in life is to help people who want to become parents have a baby or help them enlarge their families. He has been involved in helping to bring more than 10,000 babies into the world. He welcomes all people who need help having a baby, either because they are single, same sex couples or have fertility issues. By integrating a holistic approach into the established, cutting-edge Western treatments he has practiced over many years, Dr. Batzofin will dedicate the remainder of his career to trying to extract the best of each of these modalities that will afford patients dealing with fertility challenges the highest chances of success in a warm welcoming, compassionate and truly unique environment.
